This week we will be learning all about fractions.
Here are our ingredients for making cherry cupcakes |
1. We will use 3/6 of the eggs, how many eggs will we use?
2. How else could we write the fraction for number 1?
3. We will use 1/4 of the chocolate chips, how many will we use?
1. we would use 3 eggs.
ReplyDelete2. This can be writting as 1/2.
3. we would use 5 choclate chips. I found that when I split it into 4 groups I found the anwser by adding together the chocolate chips in one of those groups.
Excellent Ayomide. How many eggs would we need if we used 2/6?
DeleteImpressive fraction knowledge Ayomide. Well done!
Delete1.we can use three eggs.
ReplyDeletethis is half of the eggs.
DeleteKierra, how many will half of the cherries be?
DeleteIt wil be 5 miss collins.
DeleteI worked it out by doing groups of 4 I then counted 1 of the groups and it was 5.
ReplyDeleteAdeline I like your method. Could you try and work out 1/3 of the cup cakes using a similar method?
Delete1. I'm going to use 3 eggs.
ReplyDelete2. I'll use half of the eggs.
3. 1/4 of the chocolate chips is 5 out of 20.
Ok Marcel. What is 1/4 of the bag of sugar?
Delete1/4 of the sugar is 50g. I worked this out by splitting 200g in half to find 1/2 and then splitting 1/2 again to find 1/4. This came to 50g because 50g + 50g + 50g + 50g = 200g altogether.
DeleteWow, Marcel. That is really clever. So what is 3/4 of the bag of sugar?
DeleteThank you miss Kinsella.
Deletealso I think it is 300g.
Wow this looks very complicated year 3. You will have to come and show year 5 how to work out these fractions!
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting on our blog Miss Doak. We would love to share our results with year 5 after our investigation tomorrow!
DeleteWe could use 3/3 eggs
ReplyDeletewe Can Use 8 / 10 Cake cas
We can use 3/5 flower
Nice try Emmanuel
DeleteEmmanuel, if we had 3 eggs and used 3/3, what is this the same as?
Delete1.you will use half because half of 6 is 3.
ReplyDelete2. you could do 4\2 because 6\3 is the same.
ReplyDeleteDo you mean 2/4 or 3/6 reo?
Delete1.we will use 3 eggs because half of 6 is 3
ReplyDelete2.This can be written like this 1/2
3.we would use 5 chocolate chips because when I split it into 4 groups and shared the 20 chocolate chips equal it gave me the answer 5 but i only circled one of the array.
I love how you imagined the array in your head to help you work out the fraction of chocolate chips. This is a very important maths skill to have. Well done.
Delete3.you will use 5 chocolate chips because, I answered it by sharing 5 chocolate chips between 4 people.
ReplyDeleteRep your answer is spot on but your method doesn't equal to 5. Check the picture again, how many chocolate chips did you have to begin with?
Deletenumber 3 is 50g I think you would use 2 eggs
ReplyDeleteDo you mean the answer to 'We will use 1/4 of the chocolate chips, how many will we use?' is 50g?
