Skeleton shapes

Skeleton shapes are made with balls of modelling clay and straws.
The picture below shows a cube and a skeleton cube.
How many balls of modelling clay and how many straws does it take to make the cube?

Here are some piles of modelling clay balls and straws.

Look at the shapes below and decide which piles are needed to make a skeleton of each shape.

  1. There will be 8 modelling clays if you were making a skeleton square. And 12 straws.

  3. 1) There are 8 balls of modelling clay on the cube. This is the same number as the 8 vertices.

    2) The triangular prism needs to have 4 balls of modelling clay because it has 4 vertices. It also needs to have 6 straws because it has 6 edges.

A square base pyramid has got 6 straws for edges and 4 balls for the vertices.

  7. 12 balls of modding clay and 18 straws is a hexagonal prism because it has 6 vertisies on one face and 6 vertices on another. Both of these faces are hexagons. There are 8 faces all together.

  8. The squere based pyramid has five vertices and 8 edges. Also it has 5 faces. One is a square and 4 are triangles.

the cuboid has 4 vertices so it has 4 balls of modelling clay and 4 straws for the side
