Blog a recount of your day at London Zoo last Monday. Think about what you saw and how it reminded you of the book Zoo, by Anthony Browne. Remember, we went on a warm, sunny day and travelled there by tube (Brixton to Camden Town).

One of your recounts will be published on the Brixton Blog and in the next edition of the Brixton Bugle. Good luck!

  1. When we went to the Zoo at 1st Miss Lawrence couldn't find her way we had to use a map. This was fun and exciting it felt like we were on an adventure.  When we got to the zoo, 1st we went to eat on the grass in small groups.   It was a sunny day but there was a breeze too so it was nice weather to eat on the grass. We went to see the Tigers one of them looked really creepy because it was just staring at us, next we went to see the birds there were 2 or 3 and they were called African Safari Birds they looked happy because they were flying around. We went to the reptile house, I learnt that lizards and snakes are a type of reptile. It was a fun day, I enjoyed going on the tube because usually my mummy or daddy drive me everywhere.  We got back to school late and my mummy collected me.

    1. I agree. She is a great blogger. Tomisin read her entry to 3 blue and we were all very impressed. We particularly liked the way she kept it in order from the beginning to end of the day. I wonder what parts of the day reminded you of the book 'Zoo' Aaliyah?

    2. Well done Aaliyah! Can you answer Miss Collins' question?

    3. Thank you Miss Collins and Mr Highman. The parts of our day at the zoo which reminded me of the book were the penguin pool because although the penguins weren't in there during our visit, the pool was the same as the picture in the book. Also the giraffe house was the same as the picture but the one in the book was made of bricks and the real life one was not. But there was a big difference too when we visited the zoo the animals performed and actually did stuff like swimming and moving about which made our day fun but in the book the animals were just staying still so I think the family might not have had lots of fun.

  3. We was on our way to the zoo and looking forward to it.the first thing we did before entering the London zoo was we ate our lunches in separate groups then we entered London zoo in Camden Town .
We went to see the giraffes and they were quite interesting. Then we visited the African bird safari and the birds actually was from Africa .then we went to the elephants and they were not there.we went to butterfly paradise and it was hot like climate change .The butterflies were running up my knee and on my head.next we went to penguin beach were there was an show all about penguins and how they survived and how they eat .meanwhile we went to gorilla Kingdom which had 3 female gorillas and 1 or 2 males .shortly, after a while we went to tiger territory which the dad was sleeping and the mum and babies were on a screen because there mother had just been given triplets. Then we was off back to school after an amazing adventure at London zoo

    1. Tyrese, what a thoughtful recount. I like the way you have taken great care of how you started each sentence to move your writing along- the first thing, meanwhile, after and then are great word choices. You could also have used the words like after, later and finally.

Check back though your work. Can you find the 3 examples where you have used 'were' instead of 'was' and repost with the changes?

One Monday morning year 3 made their way to the famous ZSL London Zoo. unlike Anthony brownes book it links to when the family got stuck in the traffic jam and when we got stuck on the tube station.when we reached to Camden town we saw a park and we ate our lunches in separate groups.then it was a 15 minute walk to Camden town.

shortly we reached to London zoo were the teachers had to pay there ticket for the year group to get in the zoo .the first thing we did was to see the giraffes and mr highman said that giraffes are his favrioute animal yet in London zoo.

then we went to see the okapi .a animal I have not seen or heared about since I step foot in London zoo .then we went to see the warthogs which ive never heared about.to be continued

  4. One summers morning me and my year group set of to London zoo. First we went to Brixton train station we took a train to Camden Town. When we got of the train Mr Highman had to do a head count so we could make sure no one was left in the train. The train station was really full,it was a 15 minutes walk from Cameden train station to London zoo. From there we began acting like the family zoo by Anthony Browne . We had to make sure we did'nt get lost so we followed a map. Finally we reached there the first thing we did was eat our lunch. All of us were releved after that long journey.

The first two animals we saw were a GIRAFFE and a ELEPHANT first we looked up and down for them then we saw them. Lukly there was no more elphants in the zoo because they had been put in a safari park. I was really looking forword to seeing the elphants. Then we saw the tigers there were 2 or 3 baby tiger cubsthey had just been born, they were really quite. There was no polar bears in the zoo but hundreds of years ago there were. Then we went into butterfly pardise it was hot and the butterfly 's was flying around the Greenhouse.

Later on in the afternoon we went to penguin beach pool we saw pengin being fed fish. There was one penguin called rocky the penguin. He oves staying behined rocksthe penguins was really well talented. Then the most exciting bit was seeing the GORRILA KINDOM we saw a silver back gorrila he was the master of all the gorrilas. He felt sad and lonely i could notice that because of the way he was behaving. It was my favorite because we got to do dad's king kon impersonation we really enjoyed that. After a long and tyring journey day we set of back to school. Also i will never forget the lovely day we had.

    6. Elephant and a Giraffe the Giraffe den was really smelly and tall. The giraffe was really friendly and i think he liked us very much because he seemed to be kind. I think he liked staying in the zoo than the wild because the might have been dead by know. Luckly enough there was no more Elephants in London Zoo mabye they hated being in the Zoo. So they were just put in a Safari Park. I was really looking forward to seeing the Elphants then we went to see the the tigers there was a new aravel there were 2 or 3 baby cubs they were really quite. Then we saw the butterflies in the Greenhouse it was really hot in there butterflies were flying everywere.

Seguls were trying to take the penguins fish but they werent lucky one of them nerley drowed. One of the penguins was called ROCKY he loved staying behined rocks. Then we wanted to see the polar bears the polar bears were in the zoo at 1985 and mabye if they stayed in the zoo they would not have svived becaus they live in cold places. Then we went to GORRILA KINDOM we saw a silver backed gorrila he was the masters of the gorrilas it didnt seem that he was to me because he wasnt instructing them i loved this part because we did dads KING KON IMPERSINATION we looked like real masters. After a long a tyring journey we set of back to school. Also i will never forget the wonderful day we had.

  18. One summery summers day, year 3 went to the Zoo. We too a train to Camden Town and it took a very long time just like the family in Anthony Browne's book! (Luckily, you can't get stuck in traffic on the tube so we were moving much faster than a snails pace!) As soon as we got off the tube, Mr Highman counted us to check that there weren't any children that had been left behind (it would have been terrible if there had!) Fortunately, we saw a picture of a Tiger which meant that the zoo was close by.

Once we'd arrived at the zoo, the teachers had to pay for the tickets. Luckily, Mr Highman is very patient and he didn't feel the need to shout at the ticket man like the dad in the book! The first animal we went to see was the giraffe, they had long necks and they were tall. He was chewing his food and dribbling LOTS! I felt pleased that they had lots of food, as the giraffes in the book had NO leaves left on their trees and they looked extremely hungry. Poor things. Afterwards, we went to see the elephants in their elephant room. However, we were sad to see the enclosure was EMPTY. I hope they hadn't died. I was hoping to have to hold my nose because it was so smelly! (just like the pongy elephants that Anthony Browne saw!)

On the train, there were lots of people, so we had to keep calm. Miss Lawrence said that we can whisper to the person me, but we should not shout. Some of the strangers on the train were asleep and some were listening to loud music. We just watched them and laughed. They looked like they were having a fantastic dream.

Finally, we got off the train and went to get another one to Camden Town. It was a long way there, but in about half an hour we made it. I was jumping with JOY!

We walked in pairs to a lovely space where we can eat our lunch. We sat in a circle with our group. Some kids had their own packed lunch, but I had a school packed lunch. There was a big tuna sandwich, a packet of ginger biscuits, a drink of water and a juicy apple. It was yummy.

When we were in the elephant house we could not get in because we will bump our head on the floor. The elephants were boring because it was just stuffing its face. Then we went to the giraffe house they were a bit more interesting. There was a tiny door high up the wall there is straw inside there the giraffe will open the tiny door then eat the straw. The tigers were just pacing up and down.No one put their finger by the railings because the tigers will gobble your finger up as fast as lighting.
Then we went to the baboons two of them were fighting like their lives were in risk, the other two were climbing. The two that were fighting were kicking and punching. Then we went to the Gorilla kingdom the Gorillas were in bed saw we quickly saw how how they go bed.

We got there we went to see the hunting dogs. They were running around their enclosure. Then we went to the warthogs, they were sleeping but luckily woke up just as we were bored stiff and about to leave! Next we went to giraffes. TO BE CONTINUED.
