Meet the authors ...

Today, in Streatham Tate Library, I met two marvellous authors: Jackie Marchant (who sometimes helps Dougal Trump with his writing) and Mo O'Hara.

Have you read either of these books? What do you think they might be about and which one shall we read in class first?
We can blog our reviews of the books next term and hopefully Mo and Jackie may comment on our writing!

The dream ...

1. What does it feel like being trapped in a cage, with hundreds of animals staring at you and taking pictures?
2. How do you feel about the animals who trapped you in a cage at the zoo?
3. When you woke up from your dream, did your feelings about the animals and zoos change?

Challenge
What other questions would you ask the character to find out about how he felt trapped in the cage?

The further adventures of Macy ...

What would you do with Macy, if she stayed with you at the weekend?

What did you do today?

Today, many schools were closed across the country and many children had a day off school. Macy took the opportunity to join her local library in Streatham.

Are you a member of a library? How often do you go and what do you do there?
Can you tell Macy what you did on your day off?

Competition - be a journalist

Blog a recount of your day at London Zoo last Monday. Think about what you saw and how it reminded you of the book Zoo, by Anthony Browne. Remember, we went on a warm, sunny day and travelled there by tube (Brixton to Camden Town).

One of your recounts will be published on the Brixton Blog and in the next edition of the Brixton Bugle. Good luck!

Along the corridor and up the stairs!

Can you find the answer before Harry does?
What patterns can you see that could help you work it out?

Remember coordinates have 2 numbers; the first number is the 'x' axis which means the number at the bottom and the second number is the 'y' axis which means the number along the side.

The day we met 'George'!

Today, Hill Mead were finally greeted by 'George', the newest of the book bus fleet! We were so excited to hear about his exciting journey ahead in our workshop and assembly. The book bus project group were even lucky enough to have a sneaky peak inside...

What did you learn about George today? What did you enjoy the most?

The Book Bus Tiger in Zambia, Africa

Next Wednesday the Book Bus George, in the photo above, will be visiting our school on it's UK tour, before being shipped to Malawi in Africa. There will be a workshop and assembly, where you will be able to find out more about the project.

What things would you like to find out about the Book Bus?
What do you think the bus will be doing in Malawi?

For all you bright sparks!

These children have made a complete circuit
with a battery, light bulb, wires and a coin.

In Science we have been investigating electricity. We have been talking about how electricity flows around a circuit and what happens to the electricity if the circuit is broken.

1. What would happen to the light bulb if we placed a plastic ruler into the circuit? Why?
2. What would happen to the light bulb if we placed a metal knife into the circuit? Why?

Cherry-licious fractions!

This week we will be learning all about fractions.

Here are our ingredients for making cherry cupcakes

1. We will use 3/6 of the eggs, how many eggs will we use?
2. How else could we write the fraction for number 1?
3. We will use 1/4 of the chocolate chips, how many will we use?

Feeding time at the zoo

Year 3 bought a picnic lunch of muffins, pizza, strawberries, oranges and juice for the family in the story Zoo. Can you answer the questions:

1. The mum and two boys will share equally the three healthy foods at the picnic (the strawberries, oranges and juice). How many of each will they get?

2. The whole family, mum, dad and the two boys will share equally the muffins and pizza. How many of each will they get?

3. What fraction of each food would mum get?
